About This Collection

A far infrared sauna uses heaters designed primarily to emit energy in the far-infrared region. Shop far infrared saunas in a range of cabin sizes, heater layouts, and electrical configurations from established sauna brands.

Compare heater type, wattage, cabin dimensions, electrical requirements, materials, controls, and manufacturer-published EMF information to find the right far infrared sauna for your space and installation.

How a Far Infrared Sauna Works

Far infrared is one region of the infrared spectrum. In a far infrared sauna, radiant heat is commonly produced by carbon, ceramic, or other infrared heater technologies positioned around the cabin.

Heater construction and placement vary by manufacturer. Two far infrared saunas can therefore differ significantly in total wattage, heater count, panel layout, electrical requirements, controls, cabin materials, and other technical specifications.

Far Infrared vs Full Spectrum Infrared Saunas

A far infrared sauna is centered on FAR infrared heating. A full spectrum infrared sauna uses a broader combination of infrared technologies or emitters, which may include near, mid, and far infrared depending on the manufacturer.

Full spectrum does not automatically mean one system is better than another. A more useful comparison looks at the actual heater architecture, wattage, heater placement, cabin size, electrical requirements, controls, and manufacturer documentation for the individual sauna.

How to Choose a Far Infrared Sauna

Start with the specifications that affect installation. Confirm the assembled exterior dimensions, required clearances, electrical service, plug type, and whether the manufacturer requires a dedicated circuit. For home installations, also make sure the sauna is approved for the environment where you plan to place it.

Next, review the heating system itself. Compare heater type, number and placement of panels, published wattage, temperature controls, cabin construction, and any manufacturer-provided EMF measurements.

EMF classification is separate from infrared type, so a far infrared sauna may also qualify as a low EMF infrared sauna depending on the model and the manufacturer's published testing.

Compare Far Infrared Sauna Specifications

Heater count alone does not determine how a sauna will perform. Individual heaters can differ in size, wattage, material, surface area, and placement within the cabin. Total system power should therefore be considered alongside cabin volume and heater layout.

Electrical requirements also vary. Some compact far infrared saunas operate on 120V service, while other models may require different amperage or dedicated electrical circuits. Always review the electrical specifications for the exact model before purchase or installation.

Far Infrared Sauna FAQs

What wavelength range is considered far infrared?

In CIE infrared terminology, the far-infrared region corresponds to IR-C, which begins at approximately 3 micrometres (µm) and extends to 1 millimetre. Commercial far infrared sauna heaters typically operate within a much narrower portion of that range.

Published research on commercial far infrared sauna emitters has reported output in ranges such as approximately 4–17 µm, with many FIR heating systems concentrated around roughly 5–14 µm. The exact output depends on the heater design and should be verified from manufacturer documentation when available.

Are carbon and ceramic far infrared heaters the same?

No. Carbon and ceramic heaters are different emitter designs. Carbon heaters are commonly built as larger panels with broad surface area, while ceramic heaters are typically more concentrated heating elements.

Neither material should be judged on name alone. Compare the published wattage, heater surface area, placement around the cabin, operating design, and manufacturer specifications for the complete sauna rather than assuming one heater material is automatically superior.

Does a far infrared sauna with more heating panels perform better?

Not necessarily. Heater count does not show how much total power the sauna produces or how evenly the heaters are distributed. One model may use a larger number of lower-wattage panels, while another uses fewer panels with different dimensions, wattages, or placement.

A better technical comparison looks at total published wattage, heater type, heater location, cabin volume, electrical requirements, and how much of the seating area is surrounded by infrared emitters.

Does far infrared mean the sauna is Low EMF?

No. Far infrared describes the infrared heating range, while Low EMF refers to electromagnetic-field measurements or manufacturer classifications. They are separate specifications.

When comparing EMF claims, check the published magnetic-field value, the distance from the heater where the measurement was taken, and whether the number applies to an individual heater or the complete sauna. A FAR infrared model may be Low EMF, Ultra Low EMF, Near Zero EMF, or another documented classification depending on the manufacturer.

If EMF specification is a priority, explore our Low EMF Infrared Saunas .

Can a far infrared sauna use a standard household outlet?

Some models can, but the electrical requirement is specific to the sauna. Compact FAR infrared models are often available with 120V electrical configurations, while other saunas may require higher amperage, a dedicated circuit, or different electrical service.

Always verify voltage, amperage, plug type, breaker requirement, and whether the manufacturer requires a dedicated circuit before installation. The fact that a plug fits a receptacle does not by itself confirm that the existing circuit is suitable.

For more detail, see our Sauna Electrical Requirements Guide .

Does a higher maximum temperature mean a better far infrared sauna?

No. Maximum cabin temperature is only one specification. Infrared saunas use radiant energy as part of the heating process, so air temperature alone does not describe the heater system.

When comparing models, also review heater wattage, emitter type, panel placement, cabin size, controls, electrical requirements, and the manufacturer's published operating specifications. A higher temperature setting does not automatically mean stronger or more effective infrared output.

What should I check before buying a far infrared sauna for home use?

Confirm the assembled dimensions, interior seating space, required clearances, electrical service, plug location, door swing, and access route into the room before ordering.

Then compare the FAR heater configuration, total wattage, cabin materials, controls, manufacturer-published EMF information, warranty terms, and whether the model is approved for the environment where you plan to install it. These specifications usually matter more than cosmetic features alone.

What Customers Are Saying

★★★★★
The customer service was really great. We couldn’t decide between three models and we called and spoke to Pedram who took care of us. He really cared about making us feel good. Thanks and wish you all the best. :)
★★★★★
As an older adult starting to use my Power Plate Move I first enjoy the increased circulation of my lower extremities! Then comes balance work, stretching and toning! I love the machine so much I bought two!
★★★★★
This device helps to keep me comfortable. I am also using it after my recent surgery to help with healing. I will continue to use it daily since I see the benefits first hand and I love it.
★★★★★
I use my power plate at least once a day. Feel so relaxed after using it and my muscles are getting very toned especially in my arms and legs. Had an imitation vibration plate before and there’s no comparison. Power Plate blows it out of the water. Such a difference and definitely worth the extra money.
★★★★★
Smooth delivery process. We spoke to other companies and the response was vague. What I liked most about our conversation was that Pedram asked me what was my intention and why I wanted to buy a sauna instead of pushing a sale. This was very different. Appreciate the honesty.
★★★★★
I got an email from Pedram and he mentioned how we could add a sauna to our business. At first, I wasn’t much for it but when we set up an audit and reviewed my business, I liked what I saw. It was definitely an investment on our part but the service has been great for our clients. Thanks again for your support and caring.
★★★★★
I needed something for my basement but didn’t know what to buy. I saw this brand before but couldn’t make a decision. I called Pedram and he walked me through it and we even looked at my floor plans for my basement. This was really fun and I am enjoying it. You guys rock!
★★★★★
My body is not the same as it used to be, but I wanted something that would be ok for me and also give me a good workout. I liked how I was recommended to go with STEPR because it is a low impact fitness machine. Looks good in my garage and my son uses it too.
★★★★★
I was honestly on the fence for weeks because it is not a small purchase. I kept looking at different brands and reading reviews. What made the difference was actually getting on the phone and talking through my space and what I wanted out of it. It feels solid, heats up fast, and has become part of my nightly routine. No regrets at all.
★★★★★
I bought this mostly for recovery after workouts but ended up using it way more than I expected. I sit on it while reading and sometimes just lay on it before bed. It is calming in a way I did not expect. Shipping was smooth and everything came well packaged. Very happy with it so far.
★★★★★
I was not sure if I really needed a massage chair or if it was just one of those things that sounds nice but never gets used. I can honestly say this gets used almost every day. I work long hours and my lower back is usually tight by the end of the day. I sit in it for about twenty minutes in the evening and it actually helps me unwind.
